Blog Interview: Dominique Tiu of Konichiwear

1) What made you start a blog?

Oh! A couple of friends suggested it to me. I mean, I've had non-fashion related blogs prior and I've constantly been told that I had a knack for writing. Plus, I loved fashion, so I thought: "Why not?"--putting two passions in one tightly wrapped package is enough to entice me.

2) When you first started blogging, what kind of readers were you expecting? Do you think that everyone should consider this?

Well, of course I wanted to attract readers who could relate to me. I didn't want to restrict it too much to a certain gender but I wanted to make sure that the people who went to my blog and read my posts, were people who had the same intensity of love for fashion but at the same time, be objective about fashion and understand that fashion isn't all about trivial luxuries and pursuits and is pretty much a lifestyle and a narrative in itself. It's not really necessary to have a certain set of readers in mind but if you do, then it will better equip you in writing your content--just so your blog won't be all over the place.

3) What is your style when it comes to writing?

I don't really have a particular style but I tend to have a "self-centered" style of writing. Haha. I write in first person POV mostly, something I would never do when I write fiction but nevertheless, my blog is basically an outlet for my introspections.

4) Was it easy telling people how you feel through your page?

Pretty much, yes. I pride in having my own domain and never being questioned for my own perspective. I guess you just have to make sure that you address every single issue--be it controversial or not--with the same modesty as you would a person. You have to treat everything you say professionally without being too superficial. I guess, it's all about "balance"--knowing what to say without being forced to say anything you don't want to. Does that make sense?

5) Any advice you would like to give the people who are thinking of starting a blog?

This is the golden age of digital media--go for it!

6) Did it occur to you that someday you will be famous through blogging?

Not really. I know famous bloggers, I follow famous bloggers, but it was never my primary motive to get into blogging. I mean, to this day, I don't really prioritize magazine shoots or endorsement inquiries, sure I like having them, who doesn't?--but when it comes down to it, my principles come first. If I like something and I believe in something, I will blog about it--if I don't, then haha, I'll try to find something I like about it but I won't ever make it out for what it isn't.

7) One word that best describes your blog?

Progressive! Haha.

8) A message to The Purple Centipede?

haha, ngaw thanks @ being an inspiration--I totally love hearing that I influenced someone in some way rather than being told they like me because they find me pretty, etc. I especially liked that you focused more on my writing than on my fashion! I don't get that a lot and it's something that people tend to overlook with fashion blogging.
